The adjudicating panel of the 2027 edition of the Joe Ushie Poetry Prize has now whittled down the 236 entries to a longlist of 51 poems.
Congratulations, to the poets whose poems have made it to the longlist.
Interestingly, three previous longlisted poets: Akanni Festus Olaniyi, Christian Emecheta and Marvelous Mmesomachi Igwe have been longlisted again this time and we commend their resilience.
Having had the consent of the poets, all longlisted entries will be published in the 2027 edition of the Prize anthology, which will be unveiled at the award ceremony in January 2027.
We therefore urge the audience and followers of this prize to savour the suspense till September/October when we shall release the shortlisted poets/poems; and till January 2027 when a winner will emerge.
